For the next week and a half, you get a breather and a chance to catch up on tasks you’ve missed. Make sure your game card is as complete as you can before we launch into the 3rd book, True Love.

On January 6th, Derek leaves Cynthia in a hurry to catch his plane.

“Cyn.” Derek gazed at her as if he didn’t want to leave.  “I’m sorry, but I gotta go.  My plane, I’m gonna miss it if I don’t go now.”

She wanted to say something, but kept silent.

“Listen.” He grabbed his R.H.E. jacket and put it around her. “I’m gonna talk to Rob and come see you soon.  Until then, keep this jacket.  It’s kinda like a guarantee I’ll be back.”

She stared at him a bit confused.

He kissed her.  “Thanks Cyn, for everything.”

This brings us to the end of Star Struck. For the next few days, work on extra points and get ready to launch into the 3rd book, True Love.

On January 5th, Victoria and Cynthia go shopping for party dresses.

The taxi stopped in front of a large store with a glass façade. Victoria paid the driver and the girls entered the store.  They stood right inside the front door of the high priced establishment and gazed awkwardly at the splendor before them.  Lighted cosmetic tables organized flawlessly seemed to stand at attention, waiting for the most supreme shoppers to inspect their wares.  Saleswomen in similar black suits stood assisting several customers.  Those who were waiting to welcome new clientele stared at Victoria and Cynthia as if they were shocked that the girls would even enter the store.

Victoria adjusted her jeans and t-shirt uncomfortably, thinking she might have worn the wrong shoes to go shopping as she realized her tennis shoes were badly scuffed and the shoe strings were partially unraveled.

“You ever feel like you’ve just stepped into a bad movie scene?” Victoria whispered.

“Yeah, which one would this be? Pretty Woman or Invasion of the Body Snatchers?” Cynthia asked.

Victoria couldn’t hold back a sudden burst of laughter that made all those that had not noticed them before, turn in their direction.

A saleswoman in a fancy black lace suit with a long string of pearls and her grayish hair in a braid bun, approached them.  “Is there something I can help you find?”  Her small gray eyes studied Victoria over gold framed glasses.

Pulling out Rob’s credit card,Victoria stumbled over her words. “I um, yeah we need-” Accidentally dropping the Platinum card on the pristine white tile floor, Victoria bent over and picked it up, catching the sight of the saleswoman’s snotty smirk.  Holding up the card as if it were her passport to gain entry into the foreign land of haute couture, she found herself speechless.

Cynthia calmly pushed her friend’s arm down and stared at the snotty saleswoman square in the face, daring her to deny them entry.  “Where are your ball gowns?”

“Fourth floor,” the saleswoman replied, pointing to a row of elevators as if dismissing them.

“Thank you,” Victoria said weakly as Cynthia grabbed her arm and pulled her towards the elevators.

“What’s with you?” Cynthia asked as the elevator doors shut.

“I have no idea!  She made me all nervous with her beady eyes all staring at me as if I was homeless or something.  Maybe I shouldn’t have worn these shoes here?”

“Chill, girl.  I’m surprised you can sing in front of people.”

“That’s singing.  That’s different.”

“Maybe next time you should try singing what you need,” Cynthia joked.

“I don’t want people to think I’m crazy,” Victoria said.

Cynthia laughed.  “Oh yeah, and you were the picture of sanity just now.”

On January 4th, Victoria and Cynthia go out to dinner with Rob and Derek.

“We’re going up here for dinner.  Come on,” Victoria said, pointing toward a huge building that resembled a Chinese temple of some kind.

Derek and Cynthia followed Rob and Victoria into the red elevator that led to the restaurant above.  The establishment was beautiful with aquarium-sized fish tanks containing giant multi-colored goldfish and bright coral.  Black chairs and white table clothed tables set off red carpet and walls.  When the host recognized Derek, they were immediately escorted to an elegant table facing a large window overlooking the city.  Two waiters stood guard a few feet away in case the guests needed anything.  Soon after they were seated, the owner showed up at the table, asking for a photo with Derek to post proudly on his celebrity wall.  Derek graciously agreed but asked that the whole party be in the photo.

Cynthia smiled, thinking that if she ever doubted the evening occurred, she could come to the restaurant and find the evidence proudly displayed on the wall between photos of Jack Nicholson and Meg Ryan.

On January 3rd, Vicki jams with her friend’s band, Never Open.

 “How bout having a jam session with us.  Isn’t that what you jazzy people say when you sit around making up songs?”  Greg asked sarcastically.

“Something like that.” Victoria laughed.  She faced them; watching as Greg made sure the keyboard was on and Bill adjusted his guitar.  “But Sarah and Raul are gonna be bored listening to me singing.”

“No we aren’t, I’m sick of listening to ‘Never Open’ songs.  Sorry Greg, but it gets old after awhile,” Sarah said.

“It’s alright, Sarah.  Hm, what is that one jazz song I like?  Um it goes like this.” Greg began to pick out a tune on the keyboard.

Victoria listened to find out what it was. “Basin Street.”

“How’s it go?”  Greg asked, glancing at her.

On Jan 2nd, Victoria tells Cynthia all about her trip.

“Start from the time Derek walked in and tell me everything,” Cynthia Porter said as she sat on her twin bed, facing an identical bed where her best friend Victoria Knox sat.

Victoria smiled and took a deep breath. “Alright, Rob and I were standing near the drink table and I was looking around the room at the guests. Suddenly I saw him and I said to Rob-”

“What was he wearing?” Cynthia interrupted, sitting up, her blue eyes alight with excitement.

“Um, a suit. Dark blue with a very jazz-era tie,” Victoria answered.

“Armani?” Cynthia tried to picture the scene. She wondered if she had ever seen her favorite teen idol, Derek Montgomery, wearing the suit in pictures before.

“Probably. I didn’t exactly check out the label.” Victoria giggled.

“Go on.” Cynthia smiled, ignoring her friend’s sarcastic remark.

“I say to Rob, ‘Is that Derek Montgomery from Random Harmonial Explosion?’ and he goes, ‘Yeah, want me to introduce you?’ I guess Rob works with R.H.E. in his advertising job or something and he’s actually friends with Derek,” Victoria said.

“No way.” Cynthia ran her hand over her short, spiky auburn hair, her heart racing as she heard her best friend connect her to Derek by only two degrees of separation. “I wish I coulda been there.”

January 1st, Rob and Victoria part, planning to meet again in three days.

Rob smiled. “I will be down Friday to get you. It’s only three days.”

“Three days,” Victoria said.

“Come on Vicki,” her mom called, as she lifted their final bag off the luggage carousel.

With wet eyes, Victoria looked up at Rob, her heart breaking. “I love you,” she murmured and let go of his hand.

“I love you, too. Sweet dreams,” Rob whispered, brushing a tear from her cheek.

As Victoria stepped out of the airport, she took one last glance in Rob’s direction. His expression feigned happiness, although she could tell he was finding it hard to say goodbye.

“Three days,” Victoria whispered to herself. “Three of the longest days in my life.”

This brings us to the end of the Sweet Dreams novel. Thankfully, you won’t have to wait 3 days for more Sweet Dreams Game playing. Come back tomorrow for the next set of tasks.

December 31st, Rob took Victoria to a big New Year’s Eve party where he kissed her on the patio.

As everyone on the crowded dance floor began to count down to the New Year, Rob pulled Victoria out onto the patio and kissed her.

“What was that for?” Victoria asked.

“They say, whatever we do as we ring in the New Year, we’ll be doing the whole year and I want to be kissing you the entire year,” Rob said.

“In that case…” Victoria pulled him close, kissing him deeper as the room behind them sang Auld Lang Syne.

“What do you say we go upstairs and have an encore of last night?”

At his request, her heart fluttered. “Sounds good to me.”
